What is Ecstasy?
Ecstasy is an illegal drug that acts as a stimulant and psychedelic, which can distort the user’s perception of time and reality. Ecstasy is a popular ‘party drug’ or ‘club drug’ due to its energizing effect and supposed ability to increase enjoyment. The name Ecstasy is often used interchangeably with MDMA and Molly, which can lead to confusion.
What is The Difference Between MDMA, Ecstasy, and Molly?
- MDMA (3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is the active ingredient in Ecstasy and Molly. MDMA, along with any drug that contains it, is classified as a Schedule I drug with the DEA due to its high potential for abuse and lack of a legally accepted medical use.
- Ecstasy commonly refers to tablets that contain MDMA and possibly other drugs.
- Molly commonly refers to MDMA in its pure powder form.
MDMA is illegal and unregulated, which means that users buying Ecstasy or Molly have no way of knowing exactly what they are getting. Ecstasy could contain only MDMA, MDMA mixed with assorted other drugs and substances, or no MDMA at all. This make Ecstasy a particularly dangerous drug.
