What is Percocet?
Percocet is a brand name prescription drug containing oxycodone and acetaminophen used for moderate to severe pain relief. Other brand names for this drug include:
- Endocet
- Roxicet
- Primlev
- Magnacet
- Tylox
- Xolox
Percocet comes in the form of pills and releases the powerful narcotic oxycodone into the body immediately, as opposed to Oxycontin which releases it gradually over time. Along with all other drugs containing Oxycodone, Percocet is classified as a Schedule II drug by the DEA. The three factors that define a Schedule II drug are:
- A high potential for abuse.
- A high potential for psychological or physical dependence.
- A currently acceptable, even if limited, medical use in the United States: in Percocet’s case pain relief.
